Daniel Geoffrey Dougherty
January 2, 1984 – March 15, 2023.
My beloved son, Daniel Geoffrey Dougherty, MBA, passed away on March 15, 2023 surrounded by his family after bravely fighting colorectal cancer for 8 years. He was an amazing young man with a great zest for life, who lived and fought the disease with great optimism and courage, infectious cheerfulness and extraordinary humor.
Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1984, he lived in Fiji, England and Kuwait and came to Newbury Park in 2002. Daniel embraced travel and enjoyed meeting people from around the world. Daniel touched everyone with his caring nature, and his courage and optimism. His travels included India, Oman, the Emirates, New Zealand, Hawaii, Singapore, the Cayman Islands and Tahiti, among others. He particularly enjoyed visiting his relatives and friends in Malaysia. He loved to play his guitar, and delve deep into his interests in art, music, health, world cuisines, cars, photography, and just about every subject he could get his hands on. He was an extraordinarily blessed artist, writer and orator.
He graduated in Digital Art from California State University Channel Islands (B.A., Magna Cum Laude) 2006, and studied at the Marshall Business School at the University of Southern California in their Master of Business Administration program. He was awarded three 1st place wins at the CSUCI Speech Tournament.
Daniel pursued his professional interests of acting (as a member of SAG-AFTRA), modeling, graphic design, digital marketing and instruction, and brand development and research and worked for a number of companies in the Los Angeles area. He was active with several nonprofit organizations, including UNICEF USA, L.A. Works and Film independent, and was a board member of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as a member of several other clubs at USC.
Unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer in 2015, Daniel underwent a series of harrowing operations, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy over the years, all of which he endured with his characteristic patience and composure. If anyone asked how he was doing, he would answer something like “Doing good … Can’t complain.”
We were in awe of you Daniel, you made the world a better place, and life will never be the same without you. You have taught us life lessons, even though your time with us was so tragically short. Time will never heal the pain that we are going through, and without you our lives have been completely upended. You have left a hole that will never be filled, but we have to accept that you have returned to God after gracing this earth with your presence.
Daniel was much loved by his immediate family, parents Geoffrey and Hajijah and sisters Adeline and Nadia, and his relatives in the U.S., the U.K. and Malaysia and his many friends around the world. We will miss you forever and can’t wait for the day when we can be together again to laugh again and hug each other.
His earthly body was interred on March 21, 2023 at Conejo Mountain Funeral Park, Camarillo.
